    Be big in Japan

Travel to a Japanese winter wonderland in the new Sims expansion

    Published November 29, 2020

Have you ever heard of Mt. Komorebi? Don’t worry, you probably haven’t. It sounds real, it sounds Japanese, but secretly it is just a virtual getaway for your Sims. Nothing wrong with that: we can’t wait to go to this mountain, filled with vacay fun. There is nothing like going to a cosy apres ski, no, onsen, after an afternoon of snowboarding!

Mt. Komorebi, it’s the place to be this winter. As a real wintersport holiday is not really in the cards, nor a holiday to Japan, it is great to have the two combined in the new Sims expansion. Below you can watch the trailer and see what kind of entertainment you can expect in this snowy wonderland:

    What's new?

There is so much to enjoy in this new expansion. Here are the full deets:

    1. Traditional and modern Japanese furniture (yes, shoji doors and tatami mats!)
    2. Objects to be a bit more zen (release koi in decorative fountains and make a rock garden)
    3. Lots of modern everyday and traditional Japan inspired fashion
    4. Hiking
    5. Eating hot pot
    6. Visit an onsen *
    7. Rock-climbing
    8. Sledding
    9. Snowboarding and skiing
    10. Two new gameplay features (read more about them below)

    * What is an onsen?
An onsen is a Japanese bath house. It is a place to relax, get clean and be social with other visitors. In Snowy Escape you can enjoy a nice bath in a Japanese hot spring, something that the Japanese often do themselves. They have many options as the country of Japan is filled with volcanoes that often come with hot springs. We are curious to see how other visitors will respond to our tattooed Sims: it is frowned upon to have tattoos in Japan, so in an onsen you are expected to hide them.

Two new gameplay features: Lifestyles and Sentiments

The Sims 4 will have two new gameplay features. Lifestyles is meant to manifest in response to what a Sim does. So the actual behavior of a Sim depends on a ‘lived experience’ it might have had. Sentiments are the feelings a Sim has after an experience it had with a different Sim. Both Sims can share a situation but feel completely different about it. In other words, get ready for your Sims relationships to be shaken a bit!

The Sims 4: Snowy Escape arrives on 13 November on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Windows PC and Mac.
